The Hearts Company Mission
Hi everyone,
I’m sure you’ve found your way to our blog because you are excited to know more about our work, and we are so excited to take you on this journey with us. We’ve always had a passion for volunteering and education, and The Hearts Company believes that it is every child’s right to have access to an education that allows them to build a future for themselves. The fact that you’re interested in our passion project is so thrilling, and we hope we get to meet you on one of our volunteer trips to Cambodia in 2019.
Our dream started small.
We were three girls with a desire to help others, and to share the gift of basic education we’ve been given. It’s something that we as people, sometimes take for granted. The rite of passage that is kindergarten for children in our society is nothing more than a dream for many children across the world. We decided to start with Cambodia as Jamie and Paulina had already been before and were familiar with the area and culture, as well as Paulina already had a contact in Siem Reap with a school that was in need of supplies, his name was Damdin.
We met up at coffee shops almost daily for weeks to organize fundraising events and to figure out what supplies we would need to help the school of over 200 children. We decided to stick with what we knew best and that was the club and bar industry in Houston Texas. We all had been bartending in the industry for years now and Jamie had experience in event coordinating so we decided to throw a few parties with help form a local houston promoter group RTB (Maybe put their link their instagram as a shout out and thank you?) who generously donated a percentage of their earnings as well. These club and bar events as well as social media outreach were our primary sources of funding for our goal of $10,000 which we surpassed!
When planning exactly what we were going to do with the donations, we decided that we wanted to help each individual student by supplying them with a new backpacks full of supplies for the school year as well as items for the classroom that were needed. We did some research online and found a small mom and pap supply store where we place a huge order of thousands of supplies and put down a deposit. At that point we knew it was real, it was really happening, we were about to change these kids lives.

In the end, we hand delivered over 250 backpacks filled with school supplies, and the realization that the scope of our dream could be so much bigger. We left Cambodia, oddly enough, with the feeling that we should and could have done more, that school supplies wouldn’t make a long term impact and that we needed to figure out a sustainable way to help these children with their futures with education.
After looking back on our trip to Cambodia and realizing we wanted to impact the lives of children and teachers on a bigger scale, we decided to file for The Hearts Company to become an official 501c3 non-profit in the US. Our goal is to ensure that children across the world to receive not only school supplies, but are also able to receive access to at least a basic level of care with local teachers and international volunteers working on their behalf year round to ensure their future success. We want to create a sustainable education system for children across the world because The Hearts Company believes that education for children is not a privilege, it is a right.
