Take the opportunity to start the new year off right by helping The Hearts Company support schools in need in developing countries. The Hearts Co. wants to get students in America involved in supporting other students in at risk communities across the globe. Give your students a learning opportunity while also giving back to those who need it most by partnering with us to aid the students of our schools in Cambodia.

WHY IS LEARNING ENGLISH SO IMPORTANT FOR CAMBODIAN CHILDREN?

The main industries in Siem Reap are tourism, farming, factory production and working in rice fields. An opportunity to work in Hotels, Hostels, Tour Guiding or any other tourism based industry job relies on the ability to speak English. These jobs tend to pay better than factory jobs and farming but are still low paying on the global employment spectrum. This means that without English, Cambodian children are subject to working in low paying industries such as farming or factories with no way to look elsewhere for work.

ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS:

Founded in 2014, the Building Future Opportunity School (BFOS) provides educational and vocational opportunities, language, and skills training to over 300 countryside children and young adults aged 6 to 18 in Kokdong Village, Toek Vil Commune, Siem Reap, Cambodia. The Building Future Opportunity School works to fill the gap between the inadequate education provided by the national government and crucial subjects like the English language and technology. English instruction is limited to mainly upper class and richer families around Cambodia. Our schools provide FREE English education and technology literacy classes to the underprivileged and poorer students in Siem Reap.

OUR GOAL

We want to engage as many classes / schools in developed countries such as America, as possible to join an annual Students Helping Students initiative. Our goal is to fund things such as

  • Schools basic expenses to stay open such as electricity, internet, land rent, etc.

  • Money for the upkeep of infrastructure.

  • Basic student and teachers school supplies/ materials.

  • Funds to supplement a portion of teachers salaries. At the moment, our teachers donate their time while working or going to school full time.

HOW?

We want to leave this open ended. Different things are successful for different schools. Some of you may be seasoned fundraisers, so use what works for you. In our Students Helping Students information packet, we provide ideas such as pizza party contest, read-o-thons and much more.

WHEN?

Year round! Our schools have and extensive amount expenses annually including, teachers salaries, rent, basic bills, maintenance cost of our school buildings and much more.

HOW MUCH DO WE HAVE TO RAISE?

As much as possible remember, ANYTHING HELPS. Some examples of current expenses are:

  • $25 USD - Backpack of school supplies for 1 student

  • $50 USD - 1 teacher’s salary for one month (partial)

  • $200 USD - 1 teacher’s full monthly salary

  • $300 USD - One new laptop computer equipped with Microsoft Office 365

  • $600 USD - Fund a teacher for an entire school year.

  • $1,800 USD - Fund rent, utilities and bills for 1 of our 4 schools.

We’re happy to email you our full Students Helping Students info packet for more information on budget, fundraising ideas and more.
